Welcome Back to Term 1 2025!
Welcome back to all our returning students and families and welcome to the new members of our community. We are very excited to enter the sixth year of operation here at Elevation Secondary College as we add our final year level – Year 12 to our school. Our foundation cohort of students are now well into their Year 12 studies and we are excited to see them work through their final year and graduate later this year as our first cohort of graduates.
We have also welcomed several new staff to the school this year and they have helped a great deal in establishing our high expectations, consistent routines and rigorous learning in classes.
Welcome BBQ
Helping to start the year in a positive fashion was our Year 7 Welcome BBQ a couple of weeks ago. It was lovely to get out and meet many new families to the school and share their experiences of starting year 7. Huge thanks to Ms. Darling, Ms. Gorham, Mr. Stock and their teams for great organisation.
Year 7 Camp
Our Year 7 Campers have also just returned from their Orientation Camp. By all reports students had a fabulous time, attempted all of the activities with great vigor and demonstrated our behavioural expectations to a very high level.
Lunar New Year Celebrations
Ms. Li and the Languages team were able to organise a wonderful Lunar New Year – Lion Dance celebration in February. Our Year 7 and Year 12 students participated in the special assembly to witness (and in some cases) be a part of the performance. A great way for our students to immerse themselves in culture and languages.
Important Upcoming Events
We have a number of very important upcoming events later this term.
NAPLAN
Year 7 and 9 students will participate in NAPLAN exams between the 11th and 24th March. The NAPLAN exams in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy which will be taking place for Year 7 and 9 students from March 12th – March 24th. The schedule will be published shortly.
The NAPLAN exams are very important for students. NAPLAN exams give parents an indication of their child’s overall achievement in literacy and numeracy. Elevation Secondary College uses results from NAPLAN exams for a number of purposes, which includes providing advice to students on future pathways such as Year 10 electives and VCE options.
NAPLAN exams are meaningful and require students to prepare and try their hardest. Students will complete a range of preparation tasks in class in coming weeks.
To help students to be ready, we ask that you speak with your child about the importance of taking their NAPLAN exams seriously and trying their hardest on all of them.
We ask that all Year 7 and 9 students bring their laptops and headphones during the testing period, although there are school laptops and computers available for students without laptop access.
NAPLAN exams are non-compulsory on an opt-out basis – if you wish for your child to be withdrawn please contact Rory Henderson on rory.henderson@education.vic.gov.au.
Upcoming Student Learning Conferences and Curriculum Day
Friday March the 7th will be a Curriculum Day and will be student free. Staff will be working on a range of VCE teaching programs, further enhancing our approach to teaching the senior years of education.
Wednesday the 26th March will be our first Student Learning Conference day for the year. This day is exceptionally important and allows students to take their families through a guided reflection on the learning progress so far and for teachers to provide some clear feedback on progress and goals. Bookings will be made entirely by Compass and will be sent out in coming weeks.
