Transition to Secondary School
At Elevation Secondary College, we know that a smooth start to secondary school can make all the difference.
We run a range of programs over a number of years to assist students in getting a smooth start to secondary school.
Prior to enrolment in Grade 6, students have the opportunity to attend the school for organised tours, information nights and Taster Days if they attend a local primary school.
Once a student has enrolled for Year 7, our staff work with students families and primary schools collaboratively to establish the educational needs of each student. Each Grade 6 student and their family has a one on one interview with a teacher during Term 4 which helps to build an educational plan for the student. Following on from this interview all students will attend Orientation Day where they meet their classmates, tour the school and complete a range of getting to know you activities.
At the start of Year 7, students are involved in the Startup Program, before moving into their regular timetable.
Each student at Elevation Secondary College has a Mentor Group teacher, who has overall responsbility for the academic and wellbeing needs of each student. The Mentor Group teacher greatly aids in the transition process and supports students and parents with establishing outstanding academic routines for each student.
