Year 7 Inductions

This term in the library, we held Year 7 inductions. The library team, consisting of Kate Richardson and Janina Tao, were responsible for leading the Year 7 classes through a session where they learnt the library’s purpose, how to borrow and return books and how to find books both within the space and on the website. Students completed a short scavenger hunt to help learn the library’s layout and showed excitement about finding books they are interested in reading. At the end of the session, students were given time to look around and borrow books, with many borrowing multiple books. Since then, we have seen many Year 7 students regularly coming into the library, interacting with the space positively and developing their love for reading.

Year 8 Wider Reading Sessions

Library Lovers Day

Library Lovers Day, celebrated on February 14^th, is an event in which we celebrate reading and the significance of libraries. Since the event coincides with Valentine’s Day, the library team set up a Blind Date with a Book display. The books are wrapped in craft paper and there are brief descriptions of them on the front. The idea is that students must choose a book based on its description, rather than its cover. A favourite among students and back for its second year, our activity “Why I love the library”, was very popular. Students are given a sheet of paper with a heart and asked to decorate it and write why they love the library. Once complete, they get a lolly and a sticker. We were happy to see excellent responses, which will become a display in the library!
