Year 12 Trial Exams
As part of our Structured Revision Program, Year 12 students will complete a series of Trial Exams to prepare for their final VCE examinations.
The Trial Exam period will begin with the English Exam on the last day of Term 3, Friday 18 September, followed by all remaining exams during the first week of the September school holidays (21–24 September). The full examination timetable is available below and on Compass.
Each Trial Exam will mirror the format and duration of the final VCE examinations held in October and November, giving students valuable experience under authentic exam conditions.
These exams provide students with an opportunity to assess their understanding of course content, identify areas for improvement and build confidence before the final examination period. Students will receive detailed feedback from their subject teachers and, in some subjects, from external assessors.
The results of the Trial Exams will also play an important role in shaping our Structured Revision Program in Term 4. Teachers will use the data to identify common misconceptions and target areas where students need the most support. Revision sessions will focus on deliberate practice through exam-style questions, retrieval activities and immediate feedback, ensuring students spend their time on the knowledge and skills that will have the greatest impact on their final results.
Research consistently shows that active revision strategies lead by teachers, such as completing practice questions and regularly retrieving previously learned information, are among the most effective ways to strengthen long-term learning and improve examination performance. By using Trial Exam data to guide revision, teachers provide students with focused, evidence-based preparation in the lead-up to their final VCE exams.

Year 11 and 12 VET Laboratory Skills students had an opportunity to attend a Workshop run by RMIT university students.
The workshop was focused on the aspect of “Pharmacy” and aimed to achieve the following key learning elements:
- Using hands-on activities to develop hypothesis-based thinking and generating ideas.
- Understanding medicine formulations: inspire, motivate, and encourage or maintain interest in pharmaceutical careers, and the study of supporting subjects.
During the lesson, students investigated the effects of different digestive medicines on the human body and explored how liquid medicines and tablets work to relieve digestive discomfort. They also developed an understanding of acids and bases, including how neutralisation reactions occur. In the third activity, students examined the concept of emulsions by comparing a range of beauty and medicinal creams. They observed how differences in chemical composition influence the appearance, texture, and properties of these products.

Visual Art
We’ve had a positive start to Term 3 in the Visual Arts Department, with all of our Year 7 to 10 classes settling into a brand new semester and Unit 1.
In Year 7, students are learning the basic elements of art. Year 8 students are working on the technical skills involved in creating a 2-point perspective city design. In Year 9 Visual Arts, students are working on portraits, focusing on the technical aspects of portrait drawing, while Year 9 Visual Communication students are designing a charity poster, focusing on design conventions.
In Year 10 Visual Arts, students are working on mixed media drawings using greylead, charcoal, oil pastel and colouring pencils, and Year 10 Visual Communication students are creating a children’s book, focusing on illustration style and bookmaking. All the work that has been produced by the students so far in the past 4 weeks points to a really promising rest of the year.
Art Club is also back and running this term. It’s a collaborative space where students can work with clay or just make whatever they feel like. All students are welcome to join us on Thursday lunchtime in Week A and Wednesday lunchtime in Week B.

We are very excited for another great semester of music at Elevation Secondary College. This semester we have Hugh Kirne, Simon Wilson, Felishia Iannelli and Ashley Ballat as part of the classroom music team and our instrumental music teachers Nicholas Freer, Troy Grech, Tereza Cuca and Yi Wen Zhang.
We have had a wonderful start to the semester, already being extremely impressed with the talent within our school community.
Our instrumental music program has also begun this semester with lessons being offered in Vocals, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, Trumpet and Drums.
As part of our instrumental program, we also have the school band program where students can develop their ensemble skills and have fun playing with others.
Instrumental lessons are $150 for a semester with one lesson per week.
That works out to be only $7.50 per lesson.
