Middle School

Year 9

As we move toward the end of a very busy and productive Term 1, Year 9 are approaching the mid-point of their elective subjects. We encourage students to reflect on what they have been learning and what they are enjoying with an eye to the future. This is also an opportunity to acknowledge the great work being done by our Year 9 and 10 students across all classes.

I would like to remind Year 9 families again about Morrisby testing, run by My Careers Insights. If you have not returned a consent form for your child so far, please do so as soon as possible. They can speak to the careers team or their mentor group teacher if they require a spare copy. Morrisby testing provides a vital opportunity for students to reflect on what careers their skills and interests may suit. Having the opportunity to take part in this and reflecting on their results will help inform them as they select subjects in pathways in their upcoming years.

On Wednesday 14th May (Term 2) the School Athletics Carnival will be held at Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium. This is always an enjoyable day for all students and staff to share and will be a good way to start off the term. This will cost $20 per student and consent with payment can be made on compass.

This term we have celebrated photo day, International Women’s Day, Labour Day, Harmony Day and also participated in the running of NAPLAN.

Once again ESC thanks all Year 9 and 10 students for their hard work this term and hope that all students have a safe and enjoyable Term 1 break and return to school refreshed for a productive Term 2.

Year 10

Well done to all Year 10 students as we reach the end of Term 1. As it is only the beginning of the year, it is so good to see so many students thinking about their pathway in the future and already having conversations and taking steps towards their careers.

Well done to the students that are taking and creating opportunities to start their pathway. Many students have completed their first term of a VCE subject and are rising to the challenge. Continue to push yourselves and get support from your teachers as you begin this journey.

Well done to students that have worked with the careers team and have found themselves School Based Apprenticeships or Traineeships (SBAT). This is a great opportunity for students to continue their schooling and with Headstart (who run the SBAT program) complete 1 day of on the job training as well as a day at TAFE. This is a great way to get one foot in the door of an apprenticeship and stay connected with school. Well done to the students that have followed this up with the careers team here at school and have organised this.

The careers team are always avaliable in B8 for Year 10 students looking for more advice.

Forms that need to be completed are:

  • Work Experience Arrangement form
  • Work Experience Guidelines for Employers
  • General Safe @ Work Certificate
  • Industry Specific Safe @ Work Certificate
  • USI Numbers

Please contact the careers team for more Work Experience information.

Lates

A student that does not come to class on time is marked late. This can be seen on compass during the schedule as yellow.

When students accumulates a multiple of 3 lates, students will complete an Afterschool detention the next day from 3-3.45pm. This will appear on Compass the night before and a message will go home.

Reminders

  • Please remember if our students come to school wearing the wrong uniform, they do need to provide a note provided by parents to the Coordinators Office before their Mentor Group to receive an ‘Out of Uniform Notice’.
  • PE uniform is only to be worn on PE days. This is once a week.
  • Attendance notes need to be added to Compass, or the school contacted when students are away.  Students completing Year 11 subjects need to provide medical notes on days of absence.
  • A student that does not come to class on time is marked late, including Mentor Group. This can be seen on Compass during the schedule as yellow.  Students that receive 3 lates will receive an after school detention (3pm-3.45pm).  Missed after school detentions will mean students are removed from class the next day.
  • Laptops are to be charged at home before school the next day.
  • Students are to check their Compass the night before to prepare for the next day. This will help with important information. If parents can also help this process, that would be greatly appreciated.
  • The canteen is now serving close to 1200 students. To ensure that students get their food quickly, families are encouraged to order online.  All orders can be placed online on https://boccaonline.com.au/.  This assists with ordering and catering, and will reduce lines and waiting time for food.  Lunch can be purchased from the counter using CASH and EFTPOS, but, there are strictly no payments by mobile or smart watches because under Ministerial Order, these must not be used and will not be accepted.
